What Is Burlington Weddings & Events?

Burlington Weddings & Events was originally built circa 1818. The original structure is what we refer to as the “Main House.” Burlington Weddings & Events’ property now includes:

 

  • Bridal Cottage
  • Groom’s Den
  • Ice House Bar
  • The “Stables” (indoor ceremony and/or reception area), including a catering kitchen, restrooms, an old-fashioned bar, a sunroom/buffet room, and a loft for extra seating
  • Outdoor ceremony space
Where Is Burlington Weddings & Events?

Burlington is located in Charles City, Virginia, conveniently located between Richmond and Williamsburg.

How do I reserve Burlington for my event?

We require an appointment to review and sign our event contract. We also require a 50%, nonrefundable deposit, due at the signing of the contract. We do not “hold” dates.

How many guests can I host for my event?

Our flexible indoor and outdoor spaces can accommodate a range of event sizes. The Stables can host up to 300 seated guests and up to 500 standing guests.

Will Burlington host multiple events at once?

As our guest, you are our number one priority and will receive our undivided attention.

What does Burlington Weddings & Events provide the day of the event?

Use of our grounds, Stables, Ice House, Bridal Cottage, and Grooms Den the day of the event. Use of our tables, chairs, and furniture. Please see our Services Provided section.

What are my options for a weather contingency plan?

You do not need to worry about weather interfering with your event at Burlington! In the case of inclement weather, outdoor ceremonies and/or events will be held in The Stables ballroom. Our generators provide uninterrupted power so your special day will not miss a beat!

May I stay overnight at Burlington Weddings & Events?
  • The Bridal Cottage is available for the rent the night before the wedding and/or event. The cottage sleeps up to 7 guests.
Does Burlington offer wedding planning/Day-Of services?

Yes. At this time, we offer Day-Of coordination services. For more information, visit the “Venue Services” page or Contact Us.

Am I required to use Burlington’s Day-Of services? Does Burlington require a wedding planner?

No; however, we do require that you provide, at minimum, a licensed and insured day-of wedding coordinator. We know there are many talented wedding coordinators and we want you to choose whom you feel is the best fit for you and your wedding needs, however, approval from your Burlington representative is required before retaining their services.

May I hold my rehearsal dinner at Burlington Weddings & Events?

Burlington is not hosting rehearsal dinners at this time.

May I bring my own caterer?

Yes; at Burlington, guests may choose their own vendors, but approval from your Burlington representative is required. We also require vendors provide a copy of their current business license, certificate of insurance, and ABC license if serving alcohol. Please Contact Us (link) with any questions regarding vendors.

Is there a minimum or maximum facility rental time?
  • Access to the bridal cottage begins as early as 7:00am day of the event; access to the Groom’s Den begins as early as 10:00am.
  • The event may last a maximum of 6 hours, but must conclude by 10pm, regardless of the start time; no exceptions.
Are there time restrictions for vendor arrival times, set-up, and break-down?
  • All vendors may arrive and bring items in as early as 10 am on the day of the event. All vendors are granted 1-hour post-event clean-up. Burlington offers a small locked shed that items may be stored in. Please contact your Burlington representative for more details
Do I need an ABC permit to serve alcohol at my event?

Yes, all alcohol must be served in accordance with Virginia ABC laws and by a professional bartender, either through your caterer or other hired service for the duration of your entire event. We require a copy of the caterer’s ABC license OR you may provide us with a “day-of” banquet license individually procured from Virginia ABC. All guests will be served within the limitations of Virginia ABC regulations.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

No refunds will be issued in the event of a cancellation. We highly suggest you procure event insurance, which covers multiple circumstances, including cancellations.

How Many Vehicles Can Burlington Weddings & Events Accommodate For Parking?

We have ample parking for any event size, including space for buses, limos, etc. We also have handicap accessible spaces.

Is Burlington Weddings & Events handicap accessible?

The Stables at Burlington Weddings & Events is ADA compliant to ensure all guests are able to enjoy the event to the fullest. The Bridal Cottage and Main House are not handicap accessible. The property is equipped with brick walkways and our staff is happy to assist with the transportation of disabled or elderly guests across the venue. Please let us know in advance of your event if your guests will need special assistance.

May I bring my family or vendors to see the property before wedding/event day?

Guests who have officially booked their wedding/event with us and wish to visit the property with vendors, family, etc. are limited to two visits, by appointment only, before the event day. We are aware that vendors may not all be able to meet at Burlington together, so we will work with you and the vendors to make sure all required meetings are fulfilled.

Are pets allowed on Burlington Weddings & Events property?

Pets are allowed only during the ceremony, with prior approval. We welcome Certified Service Animals at all times.

May I take engagement photos or bridal portraits at Burlington Weddings & Events?

Photography at Burlington is reserved for contracted clients only, who may choose to have either their engagement photos or bridal portraits taken in accordance with the limitations presented in the contracted agreement.

How can I schedule a tour of Burlington Weddings & Events?

Tours of Burlington are by appointment only. Please Contact Us to schedule your visit. We will be thrilled to introduce you to our beautiful property and to answer whatever questions you may have.

Are tents allowed on Burlington Weddings & Events' property?

No, we do not allow tents at Burlington Weddings & Events. We have the beautiful “Stables” which provide a stunning setting for the ceremony and/or reception. Exception: we will allow a tent (size is limited) in front of the Stable barn doors if needed. This MUST be coordinated with your Burlington Representative.
